![]() The food was carefully presented and definitely elevated in quality. It is a small intimate setting, something like 14 seats in the entire place, if that. ![]() ![]() The Uber driver that picked us up admitted he is usually hesitant to drive to that area. I would prefer to not leave the vehicle on the streets with the amount of random foot traffic and poor overall lighting in the area. That’s what we did, and we were happy we did so. I recommend a ride share service, because the restaurant shares a small beat up parking lot with a convenience store. The first thing that will stick out to you when you go is the location. It may be weird, but when with family, without shame, we share bites of everything. I went with a group of 3, and we chose different menu offerings at the time to sample it all. I think the Indigo is definitely worth the trip, but I don’t think it has quite matured or realized its potential, so I understand your hesitancy given the price tag. But the food and presentation are there, and I have mentioned in private to many of my friends and coworkers that should Michelin ever do research in Houston, Xochi should be one. The service, while attentive, would need to develop that Michelin class service. Xochi is a restaurant, perhaps THE Chef Ortega restaurant that could make the leap. In my mind, it doesn’t quite live up to restaurants in Barcelona that don’t have stars, much less those with stars. Others mentioned BCN, and while the chef has an impressive pedigree, the quality over the past 5 years, in my opinion, has waned, and the menu has stagnated. Not sure about the current iteration of One Fifth, but the One Fifth steak and romance languages I would say come close. And “Neo-Soul” cuisine may be an appealing niche for the Houston area to explore. There are some Michelin star restaurants that are BYOB, like Indigo. Indigo and Chef Rhodes’ tasting menus also deserve a mention, as the restaurant develops it could mature into a restaurant that would be worth of a star. I agree with others that the quality and approach would possibly merit a star. I had reservations to return when we were called and informed that they would be closing the restaurant. The closure of The Pass was particularly sad for me. There are many sushi and Japanese restaurants that have earned Michelin stars around the USA that I think are comparable to Uchi.Īs much as I like B&B, I think Georgia James is a better all around fine dining experience that could merit a Michelin star. ![]() And curiously, I preferred the Houston location to the original in Austin (though I suspect others would disagree with that assertion). Uchi in my opinion would merit a Michelin star. Not showcasing your best in your tasting menu for me is disqualifying. I was, however, impressed by the a la carte options that were not included in the tasting menu. While Yauatcha does have Michelin stars in other locations, I was let down by their tasting menu, but I did have the tasting menu the week that it opened, maybe it has improved. And that may limit whether Michelin would even do research in Houston or Texas. I have to agree with the assessment above that currently there would not be any restaurant in Houston that would merit two or three Michelin star restaurants in Houston. This makes California now home to 15 of the 17 green-starred restaurants in North America.I have been to several Michelin star restaurants (at least ten), here and abroad. "People will travel from all over the world to come to Oakland just to eat!" "Having Michelin choose Oakland as a place to debut their California guide is so special, it really also solidifies our culinary excellence in the country, in the world," Peter Gamez, CEO of Visit Oakland said. These are the most prestigious awards for the restaurant industry and many Bay Area chefs took home top honors Tuesday night. (KGO) - For the first time, California's 2023 Michelin Guide ceremony was hosted in Oakland at none other than the Chabot Space and Science Center. This year's Michelin Guide is promoting six new one-Michelin-star restaurants and four new green star restaurants for sustainability.
